This marks the beginning of our fourth year with a backyard pool. When we moved in, the pool had not been maintained for over two years. No filtering, no chemicals and the cover was over 30% of the pool surface. The water was so black I couldn’t see the bottom in the shallow end. It has a liner so we couldn’t drain it and start over.
Year one:
During that summer we used PoolMoss®, frequent filter changes, calcium hypochlorite tablets to keep 1 ppm, and one treatment with clarifier. At the end of the season we placed WinterMoss™ in the bottom and left the cartridge filters in the bottom of the pool.
Year two:
We opened the pool and the water was cloudy and green. The company we use – All Poolside in Saint Paul, MN – added liquid chlorine and algaecide. We started filtration and used PoolMoss® and calcium hypochlorite to keep 0.5 ppm.
The water cleared up in a week and stayed clear all summer with lots of use. We didn’t have to add any pH up or down all summer. At closing we placed WinterMoss™ again and closed it up.
Year three:
We opened the pool and the water was almost perfect from day one. All Poolside added the liquid chlorine and algaecide. When we started the PoolMoss®, we also added catalytic carbon and used very little calcium hypochlorite during the year. The water was crystal clear and pH was stable.
Year four:
Crystal clear water from day one. I can’t wait to turn the heater on and swim in the pristine water.
